The Edith Nesbit Society

President: Dame Jacqueline Wilson, OBE

Edith Nesbit
The Edith Nesbit Society was founded in 1996 and aims to celebrate the life and work of the author and her friends, by means of talks, publications and visits to relevant places.

The Society was the inspiration of Nicholas Reed, who became its first Chairman, who thought a wider audience should be aware of Edith Nesbit's great contribution to children's literature. Most people have read, or seen at the cinema or on TV, The Railway Children, probably the best known of her many children's books. Since its publication in 1905 it has never been out of print.
